Scholarship Guidelines

  1. Most important, start early and June-July is the best time to start.
  2. Specifically, for Pakistan, only DAAD EPOS Development-Related Postgraduate Courses are available for Masters funding. Check out the most recent published list and the corresponding deadlines on, Link
  3. Meet the eligibility requirements as detailed in the following link and DAAD EPOS Brochure. Link
Select the country and course (Graduate) and thoroughly read the general requirements, application overview and procedure in the provided link.
  4. Once you have shortlisted the available courses, you can apply in max THREE courses, carefully read the instructions and course overview from DAAD Brochure,
    Link
  5. One main point, DO ATTEMPT IELTS/PTE/TOEFL as this will be a deciding factor among candidates with similar profiles. The score should be good as much as possible. I had an overall 8.0 Band (L 8.5, R 8.5, W 7.0, S 7.5). GRE is a plus but not required whatsoever. Language requirement may vary as per specific course, for that read the brochure and program website carefully.
  6. Other Most important eligibility is TWO(2) YEARS PROFESSIOAL WORK EXPERINECE which is a must and there is no way around. Generally, the experience can be internships, paid or unpaid jobs etc. but preferably in the area of your recent qualification and a managerial or executive role would be huge plus point. E.g. I have done BSc Civil Engineering and had 3 years of professional work experience in Works department as SDO/Asst. Executive Engineer and my experience was closely related to the program I applied to (MIP at Stuttgart University). The same would immensely help in your interview if you are shortlisted. Remember, RELEVENCY is the key for a successful application.
  7. Deadlines, remember the deadlines for a funded place are way earlier than regular application period and most of them falls between late August and early September. For exact dates, refer to the EPOS Course list and Brochure. The following docs should be submitted before the deadline:
  • DAAD Application Form (Green)
  • EPOS Checklist
  • Motivation Letter
  • References
  • Work Experience Certificates
  • Educational degrees/transcripts
  • CV (Europass Format/ Tabular form)
  • Other mandatory Docs as per program/course
  • Some universities give extra time for References, IELTS etc. you can find all the details on relevant course website.

8. You only have to apply on university portal.

9. You have to write ONE motivation letter for all three programs explaining the ranking of courses and the reason of your ranking. Like why first, why second etc. More details on Motivation letter can be found on relevant course website, or any guide you deem fit. You can also consult, Link

10. Motivation letter is one of the MAIN deciding factors for a scholarship. Focus on your motivation for the desired course, how it relates to your education and most importantly, your work experience and clearly state your future goals and how this German degree would help benefiting your country, aims and professional skills. Be realistic and coherent in explaining all these parts. Start from main points, add details about the experiences, skills gained and how the masters course will further your skills and help you achieve the mentioned goals.

12. After, applying wait. Around end of Dec-early January, you will receive the outcome of stage 1. Congratulations if you are shortlisted for interview. As it is a highly competitive scholarship, and only 4 -5 places are available for each program. Typically, for MIP, there were 5 places and 12 candidates were shortlisted for the interview.

13. For the interview, the main focus will be your motivation letter, CV and work experience. It might be technical depending on the program but main thing is to convince the panel about your motivation, relevancy of your experience and education and your future goals after the program.

14. Again a long wait!!. Around March-April, you will receive an email from DAAD for submitting documents and BLUE DAAD Form. Congratulation!!. This means that your are 99% done for the scholarship and will receive your award letter in a week or so.

That’s all and I have tried my best to summarize the whole procedure.
